Five years ago, I made a short post in my LiveJournal making fun of this statue. The post got really popular and then other places outside of LiveJournal started linking to it and then eventually it hit the mainstream media (Washington Post, MSNBC, some others I can’t recall) and pretty soon Joe Quesada had to issue a press release addressing the controversy (WHICH WILL NEVER STOP BEING FUNNY) and a little while later it was referenced in a Thunderbolts book (WHICH WILL ALSO NEVER STOP BEING FUNNY).
(And because I am a woman who had an opinion on the internet, I was called all kinds of nasty names, told I deserved to be raped, and received several death threats. Good times!)
This is also why you almost never see me reblog anything by that fuckstick Adam Hughes (he drew the art the statue was based on), who was interviewed about the controversy and was, not surprisingly, a butthurt dickwad about it, and compared feminists to Nazis (SO ORIGINAL) and all kinds of other fucking bullshit that I will never forgive him for no matter how beautiful his drawings are.
Anyway, go read Nancy’s post and look at the drawings that were inspired by that nasty mess. <3 <3
